The executive branch appoints a Special Counsel.
The work of a Special Counsel is overseen by the Attorney General.
The work often takes a long time.
When the Special Counsel is finished he turns over his report to the Attorney General.
His job is finished.
The law clearly gives the power to the Attorney General to send all or part of the report to the Legislative branch. He also is empowered to make a decision to do nothing. The President has no legal way to influence the Attorney General. The Congress has no legal way to demand the report. Special Counsels in the past have refused to speak about their findings.
So why are we seeing and hearing all the wailing, posturizing, demanding, threatening and other unseemly reactions to this report?
The answer is simple: it did not say what many wanted it to say.
Doesn't change the laws governing Special Counsels.
So it has to be political damage control or an intense desire not to allow this president to do his job by distracting him continually.
But if you know anything about history you should know what I laid out above.
The Special Counsel was a man of integrity. He did exactly what he was supposed to do. The Attorney General acted completely within the law. The president said he would like to see the whole report published.
So people lets cool our jets. You want a change at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that chance presents itself in a few years. Use the ballot box not the complaint box.
And by the way, there are a lot of elected people sitting under that Capitol Dome who should now address the many and major items requiring the attention of the peoples representatives. If you continue this brazen behavior and grandstanding you might be in for a big surprise in 2020.
The side show is over. Time to get some work done.
